The Scottish Child Payment has been increased from £20 to £25 per week per child, meaning 2,890 families in Perth and Kinross are set to receive a boost to their household incomes from the Scottish Government.

Eligibility for the payment – which is only available in Scotland – has also been extended, meaning eligible families in Perth and Kinross with children under the age of 16 can now apply for the Scottish Child Payment.

John Nicolson MP is encouraging families across Perth and Kinross to apply for the support.

Commenting, Mr Nicolson said:

“I often have good cause to be proud of the SNP government in Scotland and am especially so as our extended and uplifted Scottish Child Payment is rolled out.

“The Scottish Child Payment is only available in Scotland and clearly demonstrates that the priorities and vision of the Scottish Government are focussed on building a society based on fairness, dignity and respect for those who need support.

“Anti-poverty charities have hailed the extension and uplift of the Scottish Child Payment as ‘game-changing’ for families with young children and ‘a watershed moment for tackling poverty in Scotland’.

“This extra cash will go a long way to supporting those struggling to get by during this Tory-made cost of living crisis.”
