John Nicolson spent an afternoon with the Cats Whiskers charity at their Alloa cat sanctuary to learn more about their new facility and their plans for the future.

The MP met with the voluntary staff members who run the shelter and received a tour of the premises to learn more about how they work. Their shelter houses around 11 cats at a time, all of whom need to be rehomed.

John is a huge cat and animal lover and jumped at the chance to meet with two members of the charity, Donna and Kathy, to learn more about the work they do for animals in our constituency. He had the chance to meet some of the animals under their care and hear about their efforts to find these cats their forever homes.

Cats Whiskers are a charity in Clackmannanshire who help care for and rehome rescued cats. They operate a charity shop on Stirling Street in Alva and a rescue and rehoming shelter on Broad Street, Alloa.

The charity have ambitious plans to expand their already growing organisation which include a community garden and larger facilities for housing the cats. Donna, one of the trustees at the charity said:

“We would house as many cats as we could. We’re always working to increase our facilities to help give these cats the best chance they can at being rehomed”.

The positive impact the charity have on the community goes beyond caring for vulnerable and forgotten animals. They will soon have a community garden, functioning as a hub for folks to come down and spend some time together. They will be working closely with ‘Alloa in Bloom’, who are to thank for the lovely floral displays already on show throughout the town centre.

A lot of these animals are from owners who sadly passed away or became too old to properly care for them. Cats Whiskers stepped in and provided a loving, temporary home for them.

John, having owned cats for a large part of his life, was touched by the lovely nature of the animals, remarking:

“I wanted to take them all home. These sweet cats are just looking for love”.

Here are some of the fantastic animals up for adoption that you could give a forever home to:

Monty, 12 years old.

Roxy (right) 11 years old. Angelo (left) 13 years old.

Poppy, 10 years old.

Sam, 8 years old.

If you think you could provide a loving home for one of these amazing cats, please get in touch with Cats Whiskers on 01259 928280.
